Dead Silence

                                    River, Marina Moevs, 2005

The destruction arrived mute.
Never heard it coming,
although the sharp bladed
prickling around my heart
may have been a clue,
a premonition,
call it intuition,
a reflection of what
was to be…
But I discounted it
and the voiceless bane
crept on in, turning
my thoughts insane.
And the silence, it
hangs like a nimbus gorged
on my unanswered questions.
My core uprooted,
I scatter speculation
like driftwood-combing the
reasons for your
absence, while you
silently cease to exist
in all but memory.

  4. The inner voice must be listened to...so often true..I love the path of this...to freedom, perhaps??

  6. Too often we discount those premonitions. I like the feeling of foreboding in this piece, the eeriness of the soundlessness. Very moody.

  8. Very good read. You have used the ruined sheds (few responses did) and have made them a metaphor for human emotions. Great Magpie.

  9. The opening line is marvelously epigrammatic; the entire piece flows easily and effortlessly. Fine piece of writing.
