So let’s beat it…
It’s as easy as a, b, c, 1, 2, 3
And you’re a pretty little raven
At the bird band stand
And we’re really gonna rock tonight
So here it goes...
We must bring salvation back
You have to show them that you’re really not scared
You’re playing with your life,
This ain’t no truth or dare..
You’re like a beauty queen from a movie screen
In this city that winks its sleepless eye-
If this town is just an apple
Then let me take a bite
If they say Why? Why?
Tell them that is human nature…
I want to love you,
but no one’s gonna save you
From the beast about to strike
It will possess you unless you
change that number on your dial..
You’re a product of loveliness,
I feel your fever
From miles around
See it’s not about races, just places,
Faces where your blood comes from
It don’t matter if you’re black or white,
But you keep throwing stones to hide your hands
And left the bloodstains on the carpet
So let’s start with the man in the mirror
Asking him to change his ways
And the world must come together
As one, a change will only come
When we stand together as one
We are the ones to make a brighter day…
Beat it, Caty....

ReplyDeleteFirst, great montag!
ReplyDeletea wonderful homage to a remarkable artist in...shall I say?...Pop-Art Ode?
I like the way you've used scraps of the man's works to paint a philosophical portraiture...and using allusion is great stuff, and you've done this very, very well here.
Some of the ideas I 'catch', some I don't --simply because I was not 'up' on all of his works (my loss here).
There's much said here in ideas (arguments) that should, would, and does keep one thinking/pondering for a lifetime -- which philosophers have and do, in their 'Great Discussion.'
Your poem is beautiful, wonderful, and well done.
Thank you for creating and sharing it.
Excellent presentation Caty! The choice of MJ's image and more so the clever way of infusing the many titles in.
ReplyDeleteHank
Definitely a pop icon and a sad one at that. Great poem. I love how you incorporated song lines into it.
